Colwick Woods is located in the Sneinton area of Nottingham, and is a local nature reserve with an active Friends of Group. The group approached Groundwork to ask for assistance in project managing and delivering physical improvements and interpretation to the network of footpaths around Colwick Woods.. This local nature reserve is rich in wildlife, with a resident population of badgers, and is classified as a geologically important SSSI.
The site is well used by nature enthusiasts as well as walkers, dog walkers and other local people. The project helped to enhance access for local people to nature, as well as increase education and interpretation through the installation of new signage and interpretation boards.
The new network of footpaths has enabled local people to increase access around the site, and has encouraged more local groups to spend time outside, getting closer to nature and spending more time participating in physical exercise. As well as new footpaths, new seating was also installed around the site to allow people to enjoy the views across the Trent Valley and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
