Meadows Children's Centre Garden

Meadows Children's Centre Garden

This project involved the re-design of a Surestart Children’s Centre Garden in the Meadows, Nottingham. The garden was an uninteresting and dull area which had very little for children to do. It contained overgrown trees, which created dark and dingy corners within the site. The existing garden had very little play facilities, and uninteresting features. The space was not being used to its full potential.

Consultation took place with children, parents and staff at the centre, to find out what they would like to do in their new space. Plans and designs were produced and the project developed with local people.

New areas were created and existing areas improved, this included a storytellers corner, food growing area, mini - racetrack, sensory area including musical instruments and sand play, den making area and new seating.

New murals were painted on the existing walls, which added colour and interest into the space. A local artist was commissioned to produce the storytellers chair and a celebration event was held on the site to launch the new project - this event included singing, and storytelling.
