Stoke Lock

Stoke Lock

The area along the River Trent between Grantham Viaduct and Stoke Lock was overgrown, unsafe and uninviting for pedestrians and cyclists. Groundwork worked in partnership with British Waterways to create new footways and a safer and more accessible route along the river.

New footpaths were created, vegetation cleared and interpretation signs installed. This has helped to create a much more inviting route enabling visitors to enjoy the surrounding landscape and wildlife.

The project has helped to develop the profile of the area and has increased its use for informal recreation and leisure. The improvements have also helped to promote the river corridor for biodiversity and aquatic wildlife.
